Lamisil (Terbinafine)
General information
Lamisil is an antifungal medication that prevents fungus from growing on the skin. It is used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, tinea, jock itch, and ringworm infections.
Directions
Use it with full glass of water. Lamisil is usually taken for 6 to 12 weeks. Swallow this mixture right away without chewing.
The suggested dosage for onychomycosis is 250 mg daily for 6 to 12 weeks for adults and teenagers. For tinea corporis is 250 mg daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
For tinea cruris is 250 mg daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
For tinea pedis is 250 mg daily for 2 to 6 weeks.
Take Lamisil exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Precautions
Lamisil can impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Do not use Lamisil without telling your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby. Avoid exposure to sunlight as the drug can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. You should not take Lamisil if you had liver illness or lupus.
Contraindications
Avoid using the medicine if you have allergic reaction to the components, liver or kidney disease.
Possible side effect
Lamisil can cause an allergy, tumor, swollen glands, spotty skin, fever, flu symptoms, eyes problems, weight loss, eruption, headache, belly pain, diarrhea, unusual taste in your mouth. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs.
Drug interaction
Lamisil can cooperate with Cyclosporine, Metoprolol, Nortriptyline, Warfarin. Tell your doctor about all medications you use.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include belly pain, sickness, retching, urinating, eruption or giddiness.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
