Albenza (Albendazole)
General information
Albenza is prescribed for treatment of worm infections. These infections can be caused by Taenia solium, cystic hydatid disease of the liver, peritoneum, or lung, caused by the larval form of the dog tapeworm, Echinococcus granulosus, common roundworms (ascariasis), cutaneous larva migrans, pinworms (enterobiasis or oxyuriasis), hookworms (ancylostomiasis and necatoriasis), whipworms (trichuriasis), strongyloidiasis, trichostrongyliasis. It works preventing absorbing sugar. As a result infection loses energy and dies.
Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. Swallow pill the whole. Take it with meal two times per day.
Precautions
Before starting your treatment with Albenza tell you doctor if you have eye problems, liver failure, low white blood cell counts, low platelet counts, or bone marrow problems.
Contraindications
Pregnant women and patients with hypersensitivity to Albenza can't use the medicine.
Possible side effects
Side effects can be the following: skin rash or itching, sore throat, severe tiredness and weakness, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or temporary hair loss. If you experience any of the side effect listed above contact your doctor.
Drug interactions
Before starting your treatment tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking, especially about dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine, theophylline.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help immediately.
Storage
Store the medicine between 20-25 C (68-77 F) away from light and kids.
